We know sometimes adventuring can get a little messy. Trudging through the snow, dirt, and woods can wear on your backpack. Don’t fret about a little bit of dirt- we’ve got you covered with some best practices on cleaning all the different fabrics of our packs.
The Mission and Grey Embarcadero Packs are made of durable, water-repellent 600d snow canvas. The canvas has a thick, slightly rigged feel to it that makes it repel water, ice, and snow. The material is durable enough to handle the washing machine, though we don’t recommend going that route. Instead, mix a small amount of dish soap with water then stir to create suds. You can use a brush to rub the stain, then rinse the bag under water and air dry.
The Tahoe and Black Embarcadero Packs can be cleaned with a little water and soap! We recommend using a plastic bristle brush for the ultimate squeaky-clean end result.
The Denim Presidio Pack can be a tricky one- it’s not as easy to clean as your jeans! Denim is prone to bleeding, so you need to be careful of what you watch it with. You can use a typical clothing stain remover for the pack, but if the entire thing needs to be washed and you want to throw it into the washer, beware of other items in your load. Always put it in a wash bag and wash with like colors.
The El Dorado Pack can be cleaned much like the Mission/Embarcadero, but you just want to be careful about the leather parts. If you need to touch-up the leather, use a gentle but effective cleanser like Simple Green.
Here are a few tips we swear by no matter what pack you’re sportin’:
- Always air dry the bag no matter how wet it gets
- If your zipper is sticky or stubborn, spray some WD-40 on the spot then wipe it down with a cloth or brush. Try not to get it on the surrounding fabric!
- Turn your backpack inside out and use a hand vacuum to clean out the pockets and inner corners of the bag. We know crumbs have likely been living in there for months.
